Irish Step Dancing

Skip, hop, stamp, and clap as you learn the basics of reels & jigs in this Beginner/Intermediate Irish Step dancing workshop.

If you've been curious about Irish Step dancing and the popularity of Riverdance, this is the perfect time to give it a try. Or, take the opportunity to brush up on your skills as you learn a routine to perform.

Plus, hear some fun facts about the history & culture of Irish Step dancing and create a unique art project.

This workshop is appropriate for those with little to no previous Irish Step Dance experience and those with some experience who want to improve their skill and technique.

The dance program is developed by Pattie Hunter, award-winning Irish Step dancer and coordinator of the Irish Step programs at BoSoma School of Dance and Mass Motion Dance studios. 

The class will be taught by Advanced Irish Step dancers, Meghan MacBeath and Taryn Moquin, who have several years of experience dancing and assistant teaching Irish Step at BoSoma School of Dance. 

The art project will be led by Total Arts! founder, Michele MacBeath.

Musical Theater

Spend the day diving in to the world of Musical Theater.

This movement based workshop will explore the many facets of musical theater including character study, gesture and movement quality exploration, and the fundamental basics of jazz dance often highlighted in Broadway choreography.

Using a the Broadway show "Annie" as inspiration participants will bring a character to life by learning and performing choreography.

No dance or theater experience is required and there is no audition.

This workshop will focus on the movement of musical theater, not the vocals. Participants who also want a vocal experience are encouraged to add our Vocal Performance Workshop to their summer plans.

Led by Stephanie Boisvert, Director of BoSoma School of Dance and member of the BoSoma Dance Company, students will learn the skills required to perform musical theater dance with confidence.

A related art project will be led by Michele MacBeath of Total Arts!

Art Foundations

Explore foundational skills for drawing and painting. Challenge yourself with new techniques and work to improve your skills in this art workshop.

Learn the fundamentals of drawing technique including lines, shading, blending, shapes, and perspective.

Explore techniques for watercolor painting including washes, gradients, blending, and layering.

Experiment with acrylic paint techniques such as dry brush, color mixing, layering, & adding detail.

Participants will spend time in each medium and then choose one to create a final still-life work of art.

No prior drawing or painting experience is required.

 

Those with previous experience will be challenged to improve their skills.

The art workshop will be led by local artist Heather MacBeath. Heather is pursuing a BFA in Studio Art at Endicott College in Beverly, MA. Her award-winning work has been displayed in invitational shows and exhibitions. She is also the lead artist for Mile 54 Fine Art Studio, creating custom works of art.

This mixed media workshop will encourage exploration and creative application of foundational art skills.

Students will learn basic techniques in drawing and the use of watercolor paints. Using a variety of media  students will explore color, shape, and texture as they create a unique work of art.

No prior drawing or watercolor painting experience is required.

 

Those with previous experience will be challenged to improve their skills.

*Tweens looking for an instructional program in drawing and painting techniques are encouraged to add the Art Foundations class from Tween Week One.

The mixed media workshop will be led by Total Arts summer interns Erin Jones and Caitlin King. Both Erin and Caitlin attend Endicott College in Beverly, MA. Erin is pursuing a degree in Psychology with a minor in Education and Caitlin is an Art Therapy major. They each have several years of experience leading activities and projects, and are excited to bring this workshop to Total Arts this summer.

Vocal Performance Workshop, July 14

Going to a vocal performance or audition with the right skills & expectations is important.

This vocal workshop will teach you:

- how to properly warm up and prepare your voice

- how to choose songs that are in the correct range and that highlight your unique vocal qualities

- what to expect at an audition and the basic protocols to follow

- to sing with confidence

- how to handle critique and criticism without getting discouraged

The workshop is focused on performance and does not include structured voice lessons.

No audition is required to participate

Class will be led by local vocalist  

Amy Giammarco-Moquin. Amy has participated in auditions, shows, and contests as both a performer and a judge, and brings valuable insight into preparing yourself for that next audition or performance.

A prep packet will be emailed to you that includes two songs to look over before the workshop.

You can come with a third song you enjoy performing that is ready to share with the group (optional).
